Hi! I'm Cara Michelle Smith—a journalist, comedy writer and performer based in New York.​

I'm a senior writer at Salon.com. There, I write a weekly humor column on the everyday woes of living under capitalism, and report on money, power and how the almighty dollar affects our lives. I've spent 10 years in financial journalism, writing about real estate and personal finance for Houston, Chicago and New York.

My satire and short humor’s been published in The New Yorker, The Onion, McSweeney’s and other outlets.​​​​ And in addition to performing storytelling and standup, I also write OBSESSED, a Substack in which I apply academic rigor to absurdist pop culture theories.
