Hi! I'm Cara Michelle Smith — a writer, performer and photographer living in New York. I don't typically lead with vocational stuff when meeting new people, but that tends to be what folks come here for.

Most recently, I was a senior writer at Salon Magazine, where I wrote and published news analyses and commentary on money, power and the economy. I had a short-lived weekly humor column at Salon, too, which satirized everyday life under capitalism.

 

Before that, I spent eight years reporting on housing and personal finance for places like NerdWallet and the American City Business Journals, and syndicated in Yahoo! Finance, MarketWatch, Nasdaq.com and other business pubs.

Outside of that, you can find my satire in The New Yorker, McSweeney's, The Onion, Reductress and like outlets. I also perform storytelling and standup around the city, and am prone to taking photos when I'm out.
